Overview

Firesand Fire & Security was appointed to deliver a comprehensive maintenance contract for Chicheley Hall, a prestigious Grade I listed property and thriving events venue located near Newport Pagnell. The site blends historic architecture with modern operational demands, requiring specialist knowledge to manage a mix of traditional and contemporary life safety systems. As a high-traffic venue hosting weddings, conferences, and private events year-round, Chicheley Hall needed a responsive, reliable partner to ensure its safety systems remained compliant, functional, and discreetly maintained at all times.

Delivery

Our service delivery is structured around annual scheduled maintenance visits, asset condition reporting, and rapid-response engineer support available 24/7/365. Maintenance activities were planned with minimal disruption to the venue’s event schedule and operational flow, often requiring coordination with multiple stakeholders across management, catering, and facilities teams.

Given the Grade I listed status of the building, our engineers worked with extreme care and sensitivity, using non-invasive methods wherever possible to preserve the fabric of the hall. All inspections, testing, and servicing were carried out to the relevant British Standards, including BS 5839 for fire alarms, BS 5266 for emergency lighting, and BS 9991 for fire door compliance.

Project Challenges & Solutions

One of the key challenges was maintaining a fire alarm system that combines wireless and traditional hardwired technologies—originally designed to limit disruption to listed features during initial installation. This required detailed planning and technical understanding to ensure system integrity during testing and servicing.

The historic status of the building meant that fire door inspections and emergency lighting checks needed to be performed with careful attention to listed building restrictions, balancing safety requirements with heritage preservation.

Furthermore, as a busy hospitality venue, Chicheley Hall demanded minimal disruption and total flexibility. We addressed this through meticulous scheduling, off-peak service windows, and seamless coordination with the venue’s operations team.

To support their safety obligations and ensure total peace of mind, Firesand also delivers a 24/7/365 on-call engineer service, ensuring that any faults or alarms can be addressed promptly—regardless of the day or time.

Resources

Firesand allocated a dedicated lead engineer for continuity of service, supported by a small, consistent team familiar with the building’s layout, systems, and operational priorities. A service coordinator ensures all visits and reports are logged, tracked, and delivered on time, with full transparency for the client.
